What makes this device unique—in addition to its razor-sharp, perfectly interpretable images—is that the shape of the field to be mapped is not the usual cylinder, but a unique triangular prism. Thanks to the shape of the imaging field, no images are taken of unnecessary areas outside the jawbone, thereby reducing the already low radiation exposure by an additional 10–12%.
With conventional CT scans, patients were exposed to a significant dose of radiation.
